The Silver Collection

The Victory AnchorBeautifully crafted in England, to exacting standards, the labels are available in silver and silver-gilt. Each label is engraved to order and can carry any name up to 8 letters long. See our engraving page for more details.

As in Georgian times, these labels demonstrate the highest craftsmanship of the silversmith and, when not in use, make a delightful decoration for the dining room, whether displayed on decanters or as a set hanging in a frame.

All labels in the Wyard Druitt Collection are also available in 18 carat gold and special designs can be commissioned: quotations on request. See our Commissions page for more details.

Each label is fully hallmarked, including the yearly date letter thus making an original anniversary or wedding present.

The Angry Swan

Wyard Druitt's reproduction of Hester Bateman's 'The Angry Swan'; shown here with the title 'Sherry' engraved on the name-plateReproduced from a very rare armorial label made in the reign of George III, circa 1775, by Hester Bateman, the famous woman silversmith.

The label depicts a swan rousant with its wings addorsed and neck arched. The swan's feathers are chased in high relief to give a three dimensional effect, unlike the original which was engraved flat. It stands on a torse which surmounts a polished and shaped nameplate.

The elephant stands above a nameplate on which the chosen title is engraved. This label, along with the Vine Wreath, is the heaviest label we produce and the higher price reflects the amount of silver used.

One of the rarest labels recorded, made by Edward Farrell in 1818 towards the end of George III's reign. A pair by Edward Farrell engraved for Claret and Madeira was sold at Christie's in December 2000 for £7,000.

The Hungry Heron

Wyard Druitt's reproduction of 'The Hungry Heron', shown here with the title 'Claret' in pierced letters on the nameplate This label was brought to a meeting of the Wine Label Circle by a member who had discovered it in an auction lot among "..other silver and plated items". It was not hallmarked which suggests that it had formed part of a set of labels of which only one would have been hallmarked. The experts dated it at around 1780/1790.

We have cast from this original complete with CLARET in pierced letters. The bird is standing and feeding from a shell or cornucopia which it is steadying with its other leg.

We have also produced the same label with an engraveable banner which can be engraved to order.

This is a very elegant label and slightly lighter in style and weight than the other labels in our collection.

The Vine Wreath

Wyard Druitt's reproduction of 'The Vine Wreath', originally made by Digby Scott and Benjamin Smith in 1806 This handsome label was cast from an original label made by Digby Scott and Benjamin Smith in 1806. Gilt labels reached their peak of splendour and magnificence during the Regency period, and this is a fine example. A chased openwork vine wreath surrounds the drapery festoon which carries the title BRANDY in pierced lettering.
